Green Fingers

At last the sun is shining (well it was when I wrote this)!  We often forget that learning does not stop at the classroom door, but that we can enjoy learning by getting outside and using all our senses. Touch, smell, sight, hearing and taste can all be used to learn.

This year we have aimed to get outside as much as possible at the Saturday Academy and this workshop gives you the opportunity to get messy and enjoy touching, smelling, looking and seeing to design a fantastic miniature garden.    You could create a path, flowers, a shed, a pond.

Start off outside where you can collect a seed tray, compost and gravel for your garden to create flower beds and paths.

Next, choose your plants -  a Busy Lizzie, a Begonia and some Lobelia and plant up your garden.  Make sure to leave space for your shed.

Then build your shed, using a cardboard, cut out a simple net for a shed, fold and stick together.  To make it really authentic, use lolly sticks or match sticks to create a panelled effect.  Add some extras -  a fence, a pond, a washing line!  See what you can create.

Finally, assemble your garden to create your very own miniature paradise.
